Week 4-battleSHIP
October 10, 2016
Officially on the battle field and suited with the armor of God! Ha so im officially in my first area!
Radford, Virginia! I only remember that because they say Radford is "rad" Flying into West Virginia
was crazy! There's so many trees and its green everywhere! Literally looks like broccoli from a sky point
of view. My companion is Sister Johnson from Murray Utah. She's so nice and i already love her. So the
night i got there we went and visited a man named Joe Duncan. He's investigating the church and the
previous missionaries have met with him quite a few times. We taught him about the Book of Mormon
and gave him a HUGE copy because his eyes are terrible. He's a very interesting man but he's my favorite.
He's 63 and lives in a trailer park with his dog named quesadilla. He's missing part of a finger on his right
hand because his wife accidentally pulled the trigger while he was cleaning his gun. He now has "ouch"
tatted on that finger. He also like making dream catchers. He said one time a chicken flew into the side of
his house and broke its neck so he put the whole thing into his fridge to chill it and then plucked all the
feathers to use for his dream catchers, then buried the chicken in his yard to "show some respect".
I laughed so hard. So apparently this mission area is like 3rd world. And i didn't think that was true
until one of these nights when we walked into a home and there were bugs everywhere. Flying around
and crawling around. Trash was covering the floors and counters. Dishes were stacked so high you couldn't
see the sink or reach the faucet. Animals were running around. And people were smoking. Clearly they
needed some help. Me and my companion started doing their dishes. okay...she did the dishes and i started
throwing away stuff. So i go to pick up some old food and tin foil and i noticed that the rice i thought was
everywhere started moving....maggots. But we kept going until all the dishes were done. So i might have
done something bad. While i was throwing things away i noticed a lot of coffee and tea on the counter, so
while no one was looking i threw it all away. Whoops. That night i took like 3 showers and brushed my teeth
repetitively. So this week i was able to give away my first Book of Mormon!!! I cried happy tears because it
felt so good. It was so awesome to say "I know this book is true" so i challenge anyone who hasn't read
the Book of Mormon to read it cover to cover so you too can testify of its truth. I hope you all have a
wonderful week!
