Week 6-Garden of Weedin"

October 24, 2016

So I noticed our weeds were getting out of hand. Like growing past the sidewalk and onto the street. I asked Sister Johnson when the last time they weeded was and she said ohhhhh about a year ago. So we assigned a day and time to weed. The morning came that we were going to weed and it was raining so hard! I was like, wow of all days to rain it has to be the day we need to go outside. After studies the rain had stopped completely! While weeding i realized that because the ground was wet, the weeds came out super easy. I then got thinking about how sometimes in life things happen that we don't plan for and we may get upset because its not how we want it to be. But we need to remember that Heavenly Father knows whats best for us and he can make things easier if we put our trust him:)
Alright i need to tell you about one of our investigators. His name is Joel and he's been born with some disability the prevents him from being able to walk normally. He has this awesome scooter that he rides around in. It goes 5mph. But he drives that thing to church every Sunday. It takes him 40 minutes but he doesn't mind because he knows its important. He's awesome! He texted us the other day with this message. " I want to make a commitment that i want to be baptized before January 1st. You may have had people quit on you but i will say to you i will not! I will be here and follow Christ in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints forever. You have given me something that i will not let go of Sister Johnny and Sister Taylor" How cool is that?! Also, the ward had a temple day this week. They all drive 5ish hours to get to the DC temple! Because they know its important. I hope none of you forget the importance of attending church and the temple! We're so lucky back home to live close to everything!
So i got asked a pretty interesting question this week... "Is it a sin to eat a Book of Mormon? Because my friend lost a bet and had to do it" We were like "whaaaa how'd he do that?" And apparently he blended/shredded it up and mixed it into a huge pot of chili.Feasting upon the words of Christ. Literally.
Anyways, we met the coolest guy this week!!! We knocked on his door pretty late at night and started teaching him the plan of salvation after hearing about his life story. He was so interested and kept saying "i dig it" and "dude i totally agree" He then told us that he thinks God sent us to him that night for a reason! Thats the best thing ever to hear as a missionary!!! So I'm super excited to meet with him again this week and teach him more:)
I learned a good piece of advice this week. Don't make any facial expressions during other peoples prayers. We went to visit a couple this week and the girl was like "Sorry we're busy but the guy was like "No! We need a prayer, can you pray with us?" We were like "Yes of coarse!" He grabbed our hands and started praying. During the prayer he said "help my girlfriend not to beet me up" and then stopped and said "i saw that"  and then continued praying. Ha i guess he saw my eyebrows raise when he said that about the girl standing right next to him.
Someone had us over for lunch this week and made pumpkin pancakes! My favorite! On my last one i was going in for a bite but noticed a hair. I stopped and stared at it for a while not knowing what to do. So i grabbed it and pulled this long black hair out of the pancake, stuck it in my napkin, and kept eating. Let me just say that Shipley would NOT have been able to do that back home... But Sister Taylor totally can!!:) Heavenly Fathers helping me out every second of the day. Ha all in all it was a good week!!!! I love being a missionary!:)
